Templates: Add/Edit Templates Part Ia - Template Formatting Tips
IMAGES | |
Center Images within a Text Widget/Article. | To center images, insert a blank line (hit the enter key) above and below the image. Click on the black line above the image and highlight (drag/hold the cursor) the blank line above the image, the image, and the blank line below the image. On the toolbar click "center text". The image will be centered. |
Preserve Right/Left Image Alignment When Converting to PDF or Images Not Showing When Converting to PDF |
To preserve left or right alignment of images within an article/text widget when converting communications to PDF (donation acknowledgement, year end thank you, etc.), images must first be embedded within a table. Use the widget editor's toolbar to add two-column a table to the widget, add the image to the left or right cell of the table. If the above steps does not work follow the below steps: >Edit the template that you would want to send. |
Guide Button on the template |
It helps to see the template without any guidelines. > This is applicable for print only template. > The Guide button shows the Header, Body and Footer of the template. |
GENERAL | |
Add White Space Between Widgets in a Template | Widgets back up against each other. Even though on the edit screen it may appear there is a blank line/white space between them, that white space will not be present when you convert the template to Word or PDF. As such, you need to add a blank link at the end of the top widget or at the top of the second widget (by placing your cursor at the end/beginning of your text and hitting the enter key). |
Converting to PDF Makes Text Smaller | This is normal behavior - when converting to PDF, PDF format reduces the font size by as much as 2 pts (for example 10 pt in Word will appear as 8 pt in PDF). To account for this, make your font 1 to 2 pts larger than you want in the finished document. |
Page Setting: Top and Bottom Spaces |
The Top and Bottom Spaces are exported in Microsoft word as Header and Footer spaces from the edge - NOT as the Top and Bottom margin settings (the header and footer from edge settings in MS Word on the Layout tab of Page Layout pop up). There is no way to set the top and bottom margin in our templates (at this time). As such, when exported to Word, the Top and Bottom margin are set to 0" and user is likely to get a pop up error message from their printer (when they try to print) that the margins are outside the printable area. After exporting to Word, set the top and bottom margin prior to printing (be sure you have selected Apply to Entire Document to change the top and bottom margin on all pages in the document). |
PLACEHOLDERS | |
Default Behavior of Blank/Empty Address Placeholders |
If a placeholder is blank/empty for a contact record, then the system will remove the placeholder AND SUBSEQUENT PUNCTUATION AND LINE RETURN OF THE PREVIOUS ROW. This means, for example if address block if formatted: {Address Line 1} {Address Line 2} {City}, {State} {Zip} And Address Line 2 is blank for a contact, City, State, and Zip will end up on the same line as Address Line 1 as the system removes the paragraph break after Address Line 1 as well as the break after the empty/blank Address Line 2 paragraph return. |
Videos | |
Not supported |
Embedded videos are not supported in our communications templates (and, in fact, will usually break the template). We recommend instead that users insert an image/screenshot from the video and hyperlink the image to direct to the video (on your website/youtube/etc., wherever the video is hosted). |
