Contact Type Toggle Pairs |
And if all of the above was not enough to get you excited, check this out: contact type toggle pairs! Until now, there was no way to create pairs of contact types that worked together the way the member/ex-member or board member/ex-board member contact types do. That is, a pair of contact types that are mutually exclusive, can share custom data information/can pass the data in a custom data set tied to that contact type back and forth, and which can be used to indicate current versus past/ex status. Now you can. On Main Menu: Contacts: Configurations: Contact Types, you will see a new field - toggle type. Selecting a contact type here will create a "toggle pair" that will act as described above. Pretty nifty, huh?

The impact goes far beyond this, though. Previously, if you tied a contact type to a custom data set and entered data into that data set, you could NOT remove the contact type from the record. This means, for example, if you created a "donor prospect" contact type and tied that to a custom data set, you could never remove the donor prospect contact type from the record - even if that person became an "ex-prospect"/cold lead. Now, using toggle pairs, you could pair the Prospect contact type with an Ex-Prospect type. Once you identify a contact as an ex-lead/prospect, you would be able to select Ex-Prospect, which, by default, would then deselect the Prospect contact type, thus removing it from the record. All data in the "prospect" custom data set would automatically be saved and moved to the Ex-Prospect sub-tab on the contact's record. We've updated the Configure Contact Type tutorial to reflect this new feature, and we will discuss it in more depth at this week's Custom Data Sets webinar (click here to register).
